Something Out Of Nothing

Talk about making a whole bunch of money out of nothing......

Check out this article about a guy who has created a $300 million business out of nothing. If only we would have thought of this first.

Lots of Auction Activity

We've had some good success with our auctions over this past week. We sold some laptop parts from a box of parts that Ron spotted on Craig's List, POLO swim trunks (from store clearance sale), and other items from yard sales. We will have to dive into the spreadsheet and audit all the items, but we're clearly still in STEP 17 ($320 - $640), but moving quickly toward STEP 18 ($640 - $1,280). That will mean 10 Steps to go, with Step 28 being the $1 Mil prize. Ron and I have talked about continuing the eBay auctions as we move into the thousands, but we're also considering some business ideas beyond eBay. A few options include making T-shirts, promoting a bar band, investing in stocks, or driving to Biloxi and letting it all ride. Trav out.

Another Audit Has Passed

Here's our most recently audited metrics....

Liquid Cash $227.68
Rebates Headed Our Way $120.00-$140.00 (see rant below)
Funds Invested and Yet To be Liquidated ~$150.00
Net Worth ~$500.00

A $20 mail-in rebate was declined. It was a competitive upgrade rebate, which means that you only get paid if you send in a competitor's product. We called the company before we sent out the competitor CD to verify that they would accept it. They said that our CD was an accepted competitor CD. However, it was rejected for that same reason. We have two choices now. We can either re-submit another competitor's CD or we can fight this ruling. I guess another option is to just give up on the rebate. We're not sure where we stand right now.

One thing we are certain of is that we will not participate in any other competitor upgrade rebates. The whole process wreaks of a scam. It's the classic case of "he said-she said".

Travis will be posting some auctions here soon. Stay tuned.

Feel the Karma

Within days of the bum incident, I started finding change everywhere...on the elevator, on a chair in the conference room, and in a urinal in the bathroom. Just kidding about the urinal, although Ron would dig around that cake of deodorant to fish out a penny. Anyway, 14 cents found in the past few days, proving that karma exists. Travis out.

Moral Compass Check

So I'm here in PA and I was walking back from the office and I passed a bus stop. On my right side, there was a bum bending over in front of me. I quickly spotted the penny that he was reaching for and the immediate thought in my head was I can get to that penny before he can! I had to actually stop myself from lunging toward that shiny piece of copper. This game can get inside your head, so I had to stop for a moral compass check after that incident.

Stuff That's Happening Right Now

Two auctions closed over the weekend. Travis and I both sold the same thing at the same time. A really stupid business move, but the results still met our expectations. The ironic thing is that we both received the same amount of money. I actually made a few more pennies than Travis...but who's counting :). Our preliminary estimate is that we'll profit about $25 after receipt of the mail-in rebate and sale of both items. Anyway, we'll update our cash balance once Travis gets back from PA in two weeks.

In the meantime, check out our current sales initiatives. And buy something while you're at it......

Money Money Money

Another beautiful week has passed here on the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately, my buddy Travis has spent the last week up in Harrisburg, PA. So, in the spirit of friendship....look to the right Travis and see what you've been missing.

Meanwhile, we've had some changes to our account. We received $50 cash from a mail-in rebate and we also sold the boat cover for $40.

So, add $90 to our liquid cash stake and deduct likewise from both mail-in rebates and ready to be sold assets.

Watch out Trump! Travis and Ron are headed in your direction.

Current State Of Affairs

Travis and I recently conducted another audit of Common Currentsea. The results are in they're hard to believe. We've come a long way in a very short timeframe. Take a lokk at these metrics.......

Liquid Cash = $78.01
Mail-in Rabtes = $140
Assets Ready For Sale = $271

That puts our net worth at nearly $490. Talk about making something out of nothing. It wasn't too long ago that I was struggling to figure out how to get to one buck.

We've got two auctions underway. The problem is that both auctions are selling the same stuff. I messed up. I was supposed to wait another week for Travis' auction to close. But the eBay world is big enough for the two of us - I hope. If nothing else, this will be a healthy competition to see who can get the highest bid for the same exact suff. Let's see who is the best marketer.....

Rolling Downhill

The Common Currentsea project is in full throttle right now. We've got three auctions underway and we closed another two last week. Travis and I have yet to conduct an audit, but I can tell you that we have at least $200 in liquid cash. In addition, we have $70 on its way via a mail-in rebate. And on top of that, we've got several items yet to be placed on eBay or Criagslist. Keep on rollin'......

Proof That You Can Sell Just About Anything

We just sold two coupons from an area restaurant. Travis and I combined the coupons to make the offer more tempting. Sold the coupons for $10. No cost of investment because the coupons were sent to us in the mail (for free).

Restaurant Coupons

We've also got a little piece of real estate for sale. Check out the picture to the right. Property located in Mesa, Arizona.

Found some deals on the web

Told Ron about a website called www.dealigg.com which has sales, coupons, rebates, and free offers that are posted by users and updated every day. Very cool site for those doublers out there looking for deals. Ron and I are still in the "get free software using rebates and sell it for a profit" phase of our strategy. Trav out

Audit Complete

Took us a couple of hours, but we completed the full audit while listening to Red Hot Chilis...a few songs were not so good on that Hits album. So, we have reached a new milestone at $172.43, but cash on hand is $88.06 due to some investments and mail-in rebate strategies that are underway. Ron and Trav

Lots of Activity

Okay, so it's been a while since I posted. I had to search for my username and password to access today...my lack of posts are no indication of my commitment...I'm always hunting for our next opportunity. Anyway, I've been creating an offical spreadsheet for Common Currentsea accounts and I have a few things to report. I returned a Christmas gift which netted $9.95 and also got a friend to give me his old motorcycle jacket so that I could sell it ($22.01 and after expenses, made $14.32). Also, as Ron indicated, we have a lot going on with software and rebates right now...will report on that activity once the sales have completed.

Found A Buck

Found one buck today. It's no longer lost. It's new home is Common Currentsea.

I have no idea what my total is right now, nor do I know the total for Common Currentsea. Travis and I will meet this weekend to reconcile. Several auctions have ended and several purchases have been made. We'll update as soon we can meet.

Sold The Employer's Guide

The sale was a surprise to me. I didn't know if any one really cared enough to bid on the book. However, there were three bids on the book. The guide sold for $12.50 plus shipping and handling. I think it's funny that the same guide is selling on ebay right now for $99. Somebody's going to be sitting on that thing for a while. I just ruined the market. Then again, supply always meets demand. And right now, the demand justifies a $17 expenditure for someone. Anyway, here's the final auction details.

I profited $11.55 from the auction (after all expenses). That brings my total to $43.68.

Common Currentsea's pot just moved to $93.15. More auctions ending this week. More auctions to start this week.
Ron

Sunday, February 11, 2007

Audit Complete

The results are in. The combined pot total for Common Currentsea is $81.60.

We have several eBay auctions underway. However, the cost for each auction is near zero since each item cost us nothing. In addition, we're sitting on a pair of Ralph Lauren swimming trunks purchased for just over $7. The trunks have a retail value of $45. We'll place the trunks on eBay sometime in April.

This time next week should see the pot expanded by about 40%-50%.

More Free Stuff To Auction

We've got several Quickbooks Credit Card Processing Kits ready to be sold on eBay. Check out our first auction below. Worst case, we lose the listing fee since the software cost us nothing. After it's all said and done, we'll tell you how we got the free stuff.

Cross Your Fingers

This book was given to me free. So the only cost incurred is the 75 cents listing fee. Cross your fingers. Not sure what kind of demand it will have.

The 2006 Florida Employer's Guide

Update

First off, I found another penny. That makes my total $31.88.

Secondly, we've got a lot of things on the burner. After meeting with Travis, I found out that he used $5 to purchase some close-outs at an office supply store. His $5 investment has the potential to turn into $15. We'll no more later in the week once the auctions end.

So that left us with $81.88 exactly. We then used just over $7 to purchase some name brand swimming trunks. Based on our research, we should be able to sell the trunks for at least $15. Unfortunately, we'll need to wait a few weeks so that the weather can get people's attention turned from snow to sun.

Next, we've got some close-out diet pills that should work out real good for us. We haven't started that auction, but we should later this week. It's possible that we'll return more than 50% on these diet pills.

And finally, we both found some free stuff to sell. And both of those items will be posted to eBay later this week.

Exciting times. If all works as planned, we could more than double our stake within the next 10 days.

Stay tuned.

Huge News

Travis emailed me today with some huge news. I'll let you read for yourself....

"Just received my $50 for completing the health survey through WebMD for my insurance company."

Sweet. An absolute huge payday. I'm speaking for Travis, but I think that puts his total at $55. That would make the combined total $86.87.

All in less than two months. DO IT!

Penny Searching

Some think that searching for pennies on thr ground is ridiculous. The difference between them and me. I'm five cents richer.

Yes, I found five lonesome pennies during my stay in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A Bowl. Wonder where I'll be this time next year???
